Fulltext:China-FranceJointStatementontheSituationintheMiddleEast_GuangmingOnlinePARIS,May7(Xinhua)--ThefollowingisthefulltextofajointstatementonthesituationintheMiddleEastreleasedbyChinaandFranceonMonday.China-FranceJointStatementontheSituationintheMiddleEastAttheinvitationofH.E.EmmanuelMacron,PresidentoftheFrenchRepublic,H.E.XiJinping,PresidentofthePeople'sRepublicofChina,paidastatevisittoFrancefromMay5to7,2024.Thetwoheadsofstatehadanin-depthexchangeofviewsonthesituationintheMiddleEast:1.AspermanentmembersoftheUnitedNationsSecurityCouncil,ChinaandFranceareworkingtogethertofindconstructivesolutions,basedoninternationallaw,tothechallengesandthreatstointernationalsecurityandstability.2.ChinaandFrancecondemnallviolationsofinternationalhumanitarianlaw,includingallactsofterroristviolenceandindiscriminateattacksagainstcivilians.TheyrecalltheabsoluteimperativeofprotectingciviliansinGazainaccordancewithinternationalhumanitarianlaw.ThetwoheadsofstateexpressedtheiroppositiontoanIsraelioffensiveonRafah,whichwouldleadtoahumanitariandisasteronalargerscale,aswellastoforceddisplacementofPalestiniancivilians.3.Thetwoheadsofstatestressedthatanimmediateandsustainableceasefireisurgentlyneededtoenablethedeliveryoflarge-scalehumanitarianaidandtheprotectionofciviliansintheGazaStrip.Theycalledfortheimmediateandunconditionalreleaseofallhostagesandtheguaranteeofhumanitarianaccesstomeettheirmedicalandotherhumanitarianneeds,aswellasrespectforinternationallawwithregardtoalldetainees.TheycalledfortheimmediateandeffectiveimplementationofrelevantUnitedNationsresolutions,inparticularSecurityCouncilresolutions2712,2720and2728.ThisistheonlycrediblewaytoguaranteepeaceandsecurityforallandtoensurethatneitherPalestiniansnorIsraeliswillsufferfromthehorrorstheyhaveexperiencedsincetheattackonOctober7,2023.4.Thetwoheadsofstatecalledfortheeffectiveopeningofallnecessarycorridorsandcrossingpointstoenablerapid,safe,sustainableandunhindereddeliveryofhumanitarianaidthroughouttheGazaStrip.Thetwoheadsofstatestressedtheimportanceofstrengtheningthecoordinationofinternationalhumanitarianefforts.5.Thetwoheadsofstatecalledonallpartiestorefrainfromunilateralmeasuresonthegroundthatmightaggravatetensions,andinthisrespectcondemnedIsrael'spolicyofsettlementconstruction,whichviolatesinternationallawandconstitutesamajorobstacletolastingpeaceaswellastothepossibilityofestablishingaviableandcontiguousStateofPalestine.ThetwoheadsofstatereiteratedthatthefuturegovernanceofGazacannotbedissociatedfromacomprehensivepoliticalsettlementofthePalestinian-Israeliconflictbasedonthetwo-Statesolution.6.Thetwoheadsofstatecalledforadecisiveandirreversiblerelaunchofapoliticalprocesstoconcretelyimplementthetwo-Statesolution,withIsraelandPalestinelivingsidebysideinpeaceandsecurity,bothwithJerusalemastheircapital,andtheestablishmentofaviable,independentandsovereignStateofPalestinebasedonthe1967borders.Thetwoheadsofstatereaffirmedtheircommitmenttothissolution,whichistheonlywaytomeetthelegitimateaspirationsoftheIsraeliandPalestinianpeopleforlastingpeaceandsecurity.7.Thetwoheadsofstatealsoexpresseddeepconcernovertheriskofescalationintheregion,andcalledforthepreventionofregionalturbulence.ChinaandFranceareworkingwiththeirpartnerstodeescalatethesituationandcallonallpartiestoexerciserestraint.8.ChinaandFrancereaffirmtheircommitmenttopromotingapoliticalanddiplomaticsolutiontotheIraniannuclearissue.TheJointComprehensivePlanofActionconcludedin2015isamajoroutcomeofmultilateraldiplomacy.Thetwocountriesareconcernedabouttherisksofescalation,recalltheimportanceofcooperationwiththeInternationalAtomicEnergyAgencyandfacilitationofdiplomaticefforts,andreaffirmtheircommitmenttosafeguardingtheinternationalnon-proliferationregimeandpromotingpeaceandstabilityintheMiddleEast.9.ThetwoheadsofstatestressedtheimportanceofsafeguardingfreedomofnavigationintheRedSeaandtheGulfofAden,andcalledforanimmediatecessationofattacksoncivilianvesselstosafeguardmaritimesecurityandglobaltradeandpreventregionaltensionsandhumanitarianandenvironmentalrisks.10.ThetwoheadsofstatecalledfortheobservanceoftheOlympicTruceduringthe2024SummerOlympicandParalympicGames.TheOlympicTrucecallsonallpartiestostophostilitiesthroughouttheGames.Asconflictsspreadandtensionsrise,theTruceisanopportunitytoworktowardadurableresolutionofconflictsinfullrespectofinternationallaw.Editor:DisclaimerTheviewsandopinionsexpressedinthisarticlearethoseoftheauthor's,GMW.cnmakesnorepresentationsastoaccuracy,suitability,orvalidityofanyinformationonthissiteandwillnotbeliableforanyerrors,omissions,ordelaysinthisinformation.
