MultipleglassmaterialsdiscoveredinChang'e-5lunarregolithsamples_GuangmingOnlineBEIJING,Jan.9(Xinhua)--ChineseexpertshavediscoveredandconductedsystematicresearchondiverseglassmaterialsfoundinthelunarsoilbroughtbackbytheChang'e-5mission,accordingtotheChineseAcademyofSciences'InstituteofPhysics.Researchersattheinstitutecomprehensivelyanalyzedthemorphology,compositionandmicrostructureofglasssubstancesfoundinpowdersamplesobtainedfromthelunarregolithusingscanningandtransmissionelectronmicroscopes.Theydiscovereddiverseglassmaterialswithdifferentphysicalorigins--liquidquenching,vapordepositionandirradiationdamage--andconstructedacataloguebasedonthatinformation.Theresearchersalsofoundnaturallyformedglassfibersonthelunarsurfaceforthefirsttime,indicatingthereisapossibilitythatthelunarsoilcanbeusedtoprocessandproduceglass-buildingmaterials.ThestudyhasbeenpublishedintheNationalScienceReviewjournal.TheChang'e-5probereturnedtoEarthonDec.17,2020,havingretrievedatotalof1,731gramsoflunarsamples,mainlyrocksandsoilfromthemoon'ssurface.Editor:DisclaimerTheviewsandopinionsexpressedinthisarticlearethoseoftheauthor's,GMW.cnmakesnorepresentationsastoaccuracy,suitability,orvalidityofanyinformationonthissiteandwillnotbeliableforanyerrors,omissions,ordelaysinthisinformation.
